Pippin Hill Farm is in its fourth year and our wine program is evolving all the time. As we continue this process, we are proud to source all of our grapes from Albemarle and surrounding counties from some of Virginia's finest vineyards. Our Farm co-op encompasses 24 acres in producing vineyards of known quality varietals in the Monticello region. We offer a range of wines, including Chardonnay, Viognier, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Manseng, Meritage blends, and Sparkling Blanc de Blanc and Rosé wines.
Our Winemaker & Custom Crush
Michael Shaps is one of Virginia's best-known winemakers. We are partnering with Virginia WineWorks for the process cycle: initial crush, stainless and barrel fermentation, filtering, and bottling - utilizing Custom Crush for our wine production. Michael was the winemaker at Jefferson Vineyards for six years before leaving to start his winery-consulting firm and to produce wines under the Michael Shaps label. Over the past eight years, Michael has consulted for over a dozen start-up wineries and has created many award-winning wines.
We have developed a series of protocols that define each of our wines as part of the Pippin Hill winemaking plan and we are involved in each step of the winemaking process.
